Summary – The TFP system is mainly for domestic situations where there is no space under the floor to fit a composting tank or where a high water table makes it unusable to have a low level composting chamber.
The toilet has an inner drum that rotates using a crank handle at the front. Upon use, the drum top is exposed and toilet solids deposited in to the drum with the addition of some ash and peat or peat substitute. The liquids are separated by a simple urine separator and flow into a container for use as diluted liquid fertiliser. Every two months, when the drum is full to below the inner flap, you rotate the drum backwards and a simple, but smart, mechanism opens the flap to a holding container below. This container holds a number of deposits and further completes the composting.
A great little system that uses rotation of the composting material to accelerate the composting process by regular mixing of air with the solid wastes. It has the advantage of being able to be just put onto a floor and be working in minutes without any need to have composting chambers below the pedestal. Also cheaply made and uses easily available materials in most parts of the world.
