It has a contemporary style porcelain pedestal, so looks like a conventional flush toilet, but there is a straight drop in the center to the composting chamber below and the urine separating section at the front.
Being a rotating batch system, a chamber is filled and another chamber rotated into use. After 4 chambers used, the fits one is well composted and ready for extraction through the hatch. Estimated time between batches is 3-4 months with the finished batch removed the every 1-2 years.

Summary – With a long track record, the Rota loo system employs a series of pie shaped containers around a carousel that is simply moved around when full.
With 6 containers in the carousel, but the time the full chamber comes around its contents are comosted and ready for removal and use. This means that no mixing of new content with old. It does need to be situated below the bathroom, so a suitable space in a cellar or elevated house is needed. A forced ventilation system removes odours as well as aerate the composting piles and evaporates off liquids so it is essentially a sealed system.
The Rota-loo comes in 3 sizes ranging from the RL650 for small families and cabins, through the RL950 for normal family size houses and finally the larger RL2000 for commercial uses, tourist areas and parks. The RL2000 has 8 chambers and requires drainage of the liquid end product to a suitable treatment area.
