Situation – Originally designed to be placed in Forestry and National Parks to replace long drop toilets,the Bioloo is suitable for locations where you can get an installation area under the toilet room for the tank such as sloping land or a basement.
The tank is durable, so can be situated under remote toilet buildings without the need for a basement or a protective surround.
Mostly suited to new design houses and remote locations, although retrofitting in a house can be done in suitable locations.
Operation – The system is a simple design where solid and liquid deposits drop down into the tank and are composted and vermicomposted and move down the inclined base to the end product hatch at the bottom for removal.
The large capacity air vent using either a wind ventilator or a fan ensures the system is receiving large amounts of air to reduce the moisture and aid in aerobic composting and vermicomposting.
Capacity – There is the “Bioloo Domestic” for household situations and the “Bioloo Large” for amenities situations. The large tank size for each situation ensures bulk loading capacity, although you would need to ensure the usage for the public amenities models is suitable for the tank size. Design – The system is a large capacity tank design with continuous production of composted material.
Based on the inclined base design, the Bioloo has had a design change and adapted for New Zealand conditions to ensure continuous composting without mixing of contents and removal at the end hatch of year old composted material.
Construction – The tanks are made from UV-treated polyethylene. This enables them to be situated in outdoor locations under a toilet building without degradation from the sunlight.

Certifications – BioLoos meet New Zealand standards and New Zealand Building Codes.
Energy Use – The system does not use any electricity with the vent system relying on a rotary extraction fan operated by wind.
System Includes – The tank, pedestal and vent pipe and fitting is included.
Options Available – As well as the two systems available, they have an optional “Evaporation tank” to take any surplus fluids from the tank and evaporate it with electric or wind operated extraction fan assistance. This would be suitable for public toilet buildings where excess urine is usual.
Greywater Solution – They have available a greywater tank which removes all the fat and solids from your household water. It is used in conjunction with a drip field to treat and spread the effluent via top soil microorganisms.
Installations – The systems have been installed for over 24 years and have been used by the New Zealand Department of Conservation. and local and regional authorities in New Zealand.
Summary – The Bioloo systems are primarily designed for continual and medium to heavy use in domestic situations and public amenities.
The large, inclined base plastic tank needs to be installed underneath the floor with the toilet pedestal linked via a hole in the floor and a piped venting system rising from the back of the pedestal to be fitted to go up through the roof.
Solids and urine are both combined in the tank with high carbon cover material and slowly move down the tank to the extraction area below to be dug out after a year or more of composting and used in the garden under soil or mulch.
